Born and raised in Harwich, Massachusetts, Nora Roussel's experience in swimming began at a young age on the beaches of Cape Cod. She took her first swim lesson when she was 6 months old at the local YMCA. Nora went on to swim competitively through high school and college.
Nora began lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at YMCA Cape Cod when she was 15 years old. Once she began attending Wheelock College, Nora spent her summers working at Brewster Day Camp(BDC). As a lifeguard and swim instructor, she taught private and group swimming lessons and continued to develop her passion for working with young students and campers of all ages. In the 7 summers Nora spent at BDC she worked her way to becoming the Pool Director. As BDC’s Pool Director, Nora was responsible for the health and safety of all campers and staff members in and around the camp’s Olympic sized pool. Nora managed 7 Water Safety Instructors/ Lifeguards, was responsible for providing on-going staff training, taught daily swim lessons, and created schedules for lifeguarding staff. She also organized weekly swim meets for up to 150 swimmers competing against local camps.
Nora is a Licensed Training Provider for the American Red Cross. She holds certifications for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED and Water Safety Instruction.
Nora holds a bachelors of science in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, and Human Development from Wheelock College in Boston, MA. During her studies she worked for the town of Brookline as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She was also a Junior Varsity Swim coach at the Windsor School in Boston.
In 2015, Nora moved to Scottsdale, AZ. Since moving to Arizona, Nora has built a network of swimmers around the valley teaching them basic swim safety and skills. Nora has helped many children and adults gain confidence and learn to swim.
Before starting Swim with Nora, Nora taught Early Childhood Education for 6 years at NAEYC accredited schools in Massachusetts and Arizona. She brings her knowledge and expertise of human development to the pool in order to create confident, safe, and happy swimmers. She currently resides in Phoenix with her husband, their young son, and their dog, Fileno.
